”Björkquistska nationalinsamlingen”, a national fund-raising drive to pay for a new battleship for the Navy, gave better results than expected. In addition to the battleship, some aircraft were paid for by the fund.  One of them was a Nieuport IVm that was ordered from France in July 1913. It was given the Navy designation ”N I”.

In October the same year it was delivered and was stationed at the Navy’s new aviation school at the Fortress of Oscar-Fredriksborg near Stockholm.

Unfortunately the aircraft, fitted with a 100 hp Gnome engine, was difficult to handle. It was used infrequently for about a year. It was officially written off in 1918.
